Nestled in the Eskdale Valley in the Lake District, the Bower House Inn is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful countryside or walking the fells. It is also an ideal location for golf, fishing and horse-riding. The Bower House Inn is a great base for countryside walks.  Set in the heart of the Western Fells of Lakeland, Scafell, Great Gable and Wastwater are all within easy reach.

The Beer Garden

Our large Gardens really are a joy to behold, surrounded by flowers and nature, they take you away from the stress and burn of a busy life. Evenings bring a new dimension, with spectacular illumination of the trees.

Enjoy home cooked food and local ales, whilst taking in the panoramic views of Muncaster Fell. Children are able to amuse themselves in the designated play area and extensive lawns.

Get lost in a book under our very own reading tree, with the sound of the beck as it meanders through the gardens.

Eskdale Green

The shop, Eskdale stores, stocks groceries, newspapers & basic essentials and is situated about 1 mile from the Bower House and opposite the historic St Bega’s church.

The L’all Ratty is also a popular attraction, with Irton Road station stop being situated close by. From here you can travel on the miniature steam train to Ravenglass, or up the valley to Dalegarth. Both have car parking, cafes and gift shops.

The woodland in and around Eskdale has many walks for both the experienced hiker & the inexperienced, with beautiful views from whichever path you take with little hidden gems along the way, such as the Japanese Garden built in 1914 & Stanley Ghyll Waterfall.

A truly beautiful part of the Western Lake District – come and see for yourself!

Local Area

Eskdale and the surround area is a haven for those looking for outdoor adventures & activities, or for those just looking for some fresh air and peace & quiet in nature.

In the next valley there is our closest lake, Wastwater, where you can take a gentle stroll down by the lake, or hike up one of the famous peaks that over look the lake.

Wastwater & Scafell

Wastwater, located in the neighbouring valley of Wasdale, is Englands’ deepest lake, at the foot of Scafell Pike, Englands’ highest mountain.

The lake is surrounded by beautiful scenery with many outdoor activities for both the experienced & inexperienced.
